Celebration of Sissie

by Reese Turner

My purpose is not to win this scene
But to celebrate my Sissie, at sixteen!
She was just one, when we found
This little lady at the public pound.

We took her home for my mother.
She did her job. She’s quite a lover.
She's precocious while opinianated,
Yet, better buddy than anticipated.

Mother passed on, Sissie became
All mine. So spoiled. I am to blame.
My little gal transformed to RV hound,
Ready to explore wherever bound.

Ready to cuddle, even later in years,
Now, her time is nigh. Thus, my tears.
She’s blind, she’s deaf, leaves a mess
All over the house, I must confess.

Would be easier if she’d just go to sleep
And I were not faced with guilt so deep.
But, I must admit torment in my eyes;
Spare my darling’s pain; to euthanize…

Will she know why, tears in my voice,
That she’s suffering? I have no choice!
I’ll see her again, waiting at God’s gate,
For her love, and demands, I can’t wait.

Sad Poems writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Sadness has overcome us all at one time or another. Either caused by a relative or close friend's death or from the girl or guy that broke our heart or just life in general. We all handle situations differently, some good, some bad. This contest gives us the ability to explore this. Your poem can also play into other emotions that are common to writing like this such as anger or depression.

A usual exclamation of my religion is "God is Love!". So, it seems logical to me that animals who show love will be Blessed with Heaven. It follows, to me, that I will see they who loved me here, will greet me there. Love is powerful. Anything could happen. Thank you for letting me share a very special little lady with you.
