Mixed Rhyme Quatrains
A chapter in the book Little Poems

Quatrain Conclusions

by Treischel

(This poem is an introductory poem for a soon to be published new book. See author notes .)

The Quatrains are the building blocks of poems.
You’ll find them in a hundred thousand tomes.
And I have shown they’re highly flexible.
Ways purists often find contemptible.

In cascades, echoes, riffs, and waterfalls,
We learned that lines and phrases may repeat
While end-line spots are where most rhyme befalls
There’s other points where matching sounds can meet.

As we have looked at several special schemes,
Enough to make a poet’s head explode,
We rolled the line positions through their themes,
Reviewing how poetic cadence flows.

Then what we found with numbered syllables,
The very likes of 1,6.9.and 2,
Where real amazing scansion miracles
This book reveals in chapters unto you.

My fondest hope is that we’ve made it plain
That poet’s muse should never overlook
The simple fact that all the Quatrains reign,
Which is the stated purpose of this book.

"Take Flight: The Quatrains" is the title of my soon to be published newest book. This book is about those most important (but not the only) poetic building blocks that a poet ever utilizes. It investigates the many ways a Quatrain can be used, and how it interplays with other poetic elements, such as rhyme and meter. The discussion expresses ways it can be used to build Stanzas, and provide structural integrity. The book contains 155 original poems written in 82 different formats built around the Quatrain.
I had the book reviewed, formatted, edited and ready for release when the publisher I was using went bankrupt. So now I am in the process of finding another publisher. At any rate, this is one of the poems from the book. Actually, it's the concluding Poem. So I hope to be publishing the book some time this year.
