My fear was changed to beauty in an instant.

Altering fear

by Teresa Wisniewski

There was a knock on the door. This was not an unusual knock, only quick taping. As I walked downstairs, it was quiet. I stood for a bit and nothing. Timid to open the door, I looked out the window to see no one. Being alone I'm a little skeptical and a quarter frightened. I made sure the door was locked and headed back upstairs when I heard it again.
My home was a log cabin in the woods with no one around for 5 miles.
With a cast iron pan in hand, I proceeded to open the door when to my surprise, a large bird flew away landing in a tree. As all fear left my body, nature revealed a beautiful woodpecker to visit.
I will put some food out for you as you must be pretty hungry to be pecking at my door.
