Confession Discretion, A must in a tell-all session

Confession By Another Name

by Reese Turner

Confession: Is it good for the soul Contest Winner

“Confession” – now, that is a curious word.
It has several contexts, or so I’ve heard.
Some have religious connotations
Some might involve legal complications…

Our use of confession here is lagging
‘Cause here is Texas – we call it "bragging."
It’s what we do. It’s who we be.
What we’ve done is for all to see.

Yet, bragging to us, a/k/a, “confession”,
Must be tempered with some discretion.
If confession would cause pain or jail
Avoid its use.  Bring no tears. Pay no bail.

On the other hand, if laughter then ensues,
Laughter's good, good for the soul, so use.
If confession makes you look good, or smart,
Then pile it on and bless your heart.

Now, we’ve all got stories of back-seat trysts
But, be fair, report those you also missed.
Or, something you took without permission?
Most find those boring as tales of fishin’!

Keep in mind that most folks don’t care
Means nothing to them if they weren’t there.
So, confess all you want, but just don’t bore
(Except in Texas, where we bore more!)

Will Rogers said, "You can always tell a Texan. But, you can't tell him much!" I am so proud of that fame. And, if somebody goes to sleep while I'm bragging, I'm proud I was able to help them get some rest. They might have needed it. Anyway, my mama said, "Be careful what you tell, 'cause it will get told again and again - if it's any good."
