Whats Wrong With Being Different

by Daniel Fernandes

The author has placed a warning on this post for language.
So Frank Malley, what seems to be the issue?
I understand that you don't like my style. That's nothing new.
I write from the soul because that's what you're supposed to do.
It's poetry; everyone has a different point of view.

You need to read more books because you don't know poetry.
Stop with the sloppy rhymes that look forced to me.
It's too long. Your just a hip hop wanna be.
Seems familiar, Frank, because that's the shit you said to me.

So yeah, I rhyme because I like the challenge.
I take my time because you can't rush talent.
Throwing similes and metaphors with a refined balance.
I will write until my tombstone confirms my absence.

Now listen, I know I am not perfect. I have my mistakes.
Grammer flaws are inevitable, so I will embrace.
We all have skills that need some adjustments to be made.
So it's disrespectful to have someone tell you that your work should be erased.

I don't know about you, but I write from the heart.
l let God guide my pen as the words are being carved.
Depression kicked my ass until the writing starts.
Demons kill themselves as I formulate art.

My style isn't what most are used to.
Each line has a purpose, like a clue.
If you just listen to listen, your ears will thank you,
but once you understand the words, you'll respect what I can do.

Craft a poem full of ambiguity.
Practice the flow to master fluency.
Dodge the cruelty because that distracts opportunity.
Blind the dream with anxiety.
Mixing emotions like puberty.

Laughing at the bullshit until you agree.
Fist bump the devil to avoid brutality.
Study success to grow gradually.
Trying not to worry while waking up so early.
Chasing money with a resume of ingenuity.
Yet was rejected because the only proof was a high school degree.

You're the poetic king, are you not?
Show me some poetry then so that I can stop.
Let it shine to see what you got.
All eyes on you in case you forgot.

You can write it down. I'll wait to see.
Take your time to set those thoughts free.
You don't have to rhyme, although others disagree.
Once the pen loses its ink, email the results to me,
and I'll analyze it just as you did. Oh, the irony.
We'll settle this without a referee.

Yes, my style is different.
What is the problem with it?
I love what I do, and smiling makes it legit.
Until someone like you comes to talk shit.

Just so you know, there is a difference between destructive and constructive criticism.
Supposed to support and advise, it's part of the human algorithm.
Times have changed, and we lost the rhythm.
Talking with our spirit and people never listen.

Chaos appears, and people lose respect.
You say what you please, but there's a line drawn for being honest.
Besides, that's just being a dick.
Poisoning a hobby that fills the brain with bliss,
and here you are low-key convincing them to quit.

Shit has more words than a CVS receipt.
Surprised you had so much to say, honestly.
Go ahead and speak with transparency,
as you hide the truth like any government agency.

You are not the only one, so I'll relax a bit.
I just don't understand the hate, to begin with.
Being targeted for enjoying a passion and posting it.
Spreading the love because it sparked my interest.

I'm not harming anyone for writing unless I am too ignorant.
Jumping into a perspective that can be innocent
or even explain the struggles of being an immigrant.
I do my research so that my stories are legitimate.
Blending empathy to keep the feeling equivalent.
Speak as if I'm them so that the dialog is realistic.
Keeping an eye on the details so that the tone is consistent.
It's poetry, so what's wrong with being different?
