My daughter unveils a disturbing problem

Unsettling Homecoming

I arrived home early from a three-week business trip hoping to surprise my wife and daughter.

Entering the house, I heard my daughter yelling and went to investigate.

She was saying; “Stay in that corner you little bitch. If you move, you will be sorry, and if you ever tell your father about this, I'll take your Becky Bear away from you and you'll never get her back!

I stood silently, tears forming in my eyes.

“Lauren, where did you hear those words?”

“Daddy, you're home! Becky and I missed you."

"Lauren, does Mommy say those things to you?"

Mommy says things like that to me when she’s mad at me.”

I hugged her tightly. "I'm sorry, baby."

“Where is Mommy?”

“She's upstairs, taking a nap.”

“A nap?"

"She takes one every day after lunch."

"Wait here, Lauren. I'm going to check on her."

"Okay, Daddy."

I went upstairs and found my wife Deborah passed out, face down on the floor. Concerned, I ran to her and turned her over. Beneath her was an empty bottle of Vodka and a glass on the floor.

Disgusted, I left her there, went downstairs, and said. "Lauren, Mommy is still sleeping, why don't we go get some ice cream, I hear you've been a very good girl. Bring Becky, and then we'll go see Grandma."

"What about Mommy?"

"It's okay, Mommy will be fine."

I called my mother to meet us at Baskin-Rogers. I cryptically told her I needed her to go there to distract Lauren.

When she arrived, she took Lauren to the counter to order her cone, while I slipped outside to make a phone call.

"Kinnelon Police Department, 911," what is your emergency?"

"This is Jacob Flynn. Please send someone to my house at 1000, North Shore Drive, Smoke Rise. I came home and found my wife drunk and unconscious in the upstairs Master Suite. I didn't want my daughter to see her mother that way so I removed her from the house. I will need to speak with a Detective once she is taken to the hospital.  The doors are unlocked and she needs medical attention. You can reach me at this number. I will be bringing my daughter to my mother's house in Pompton Plains, NJ.

"Mr. Flynn, is your wife alive and breathing?"

"Yes, I checked her pulse and heartbeat. Apparently, according to my daughter, she's been abusive and from what I've observed, appears to be an alcoholic. My primary concern is my daughter and I've made sure she is safe. My wife was supposed to be caring for my daughter when I travel, and from what my daughter told me, she has been verbally and physically abusing her, and daily goes upstairs where she gets drunk, leaving my four-year-old daughter to take care of herself!"

"Mr. Flynn, a patrol officer is being dispatched to your residence, along with EMS."

"Thank you."

Divorce papers were served to Deborah in the hospital the next day.
