Through The Glass Wall

by T.A. Walk

Said I,

Hail thee, fair traveler, with your hand upon my wall,

Please use great care, for the entire thing may fall.

I realize that I made it look strong,

But truly you would be very wrong,

See, this wall was built with ignorance and glass,

Because I’m quite ill, and haven’t got much class.

Said she,

Hello there, old soldier, I’d like to pass your wall,

I will use great care, although you’d be better off should it fall.

I think you do not realize you’re strong,

I think you think you did something wrong,

See, this glass was meant to see right through,

And it just so happens sir that I do.

Said I,

I don’t do this much, but just for you, and just today,

I’ll allow you to pass, come I’ll show you the way.

The beauty of this see through wall of glass,

Is there is no door, still none can pass.

See, although it’s fragile and needs more care,

No one really bothers ‘cause they can’t see it’s there.

Said she,

I appreciate you sir, but long before today,

I saw you and this door, I already know the way.

I think it’s beautiful, this polished glass,

But without your blessing I’d never pass.

See, the fact that you take time to treat this glass like a lover,

Makes me wonder what more there is to discover.

Said I,

A rather long time has passed since I allowed anyone here,

This wall was built because of my pain, my sorrow, and fear.

It never even needed to be strong,

People fear my illness and there’s nowhere I belong.

See, at this point in life I use my pen and a pad,

To bear my soul to on the days that I’m sad.

Said she,

It’s wonderful to be chosen to be with you here,

I promise to be gentle so there is nothing to fear.

You will now forever be strong,

For by my side is where you always belong.

See, I’ll be your muse while you write those things,

And after you’re done I’ll help spread your wings.
