Wrapped in Autumn

October Days

by Janet Foor

There's beauty in October days
with shades of ev'ry harvest hue
Fall breezes sing sweet melodies.
The sounds are old; the tune is new.

The ragweed sways from left to right.
Bright showy asters take a stand.
The mighty oak and maple trees
add grandeur to this wonderland.

If only fears could blow away
like last year's auburn autumn leaves,
this world would be a joy filled place
of endless possibilities.

Now winter nights are beckoning.
Cold stillness offers muted peace.
Can silent darkness dull the pain --
or voiceless calm bring kind release?

But I have learned to acquiesce
and measure joy in other ways --
allowing me to see beyond
the beauty of October days.

There is beauty all around us even in the midst of trials. Sometimes we have to look for it but it definitely is always there and I'm grateful for the beauty and bounty of God's creation.
