Children are vulnerable

Abject Fear

by Claire Tennant

Don’t touch her she’s of my blood

Her innocence shines through

Her childish smile

Yet, in a while

Her troubled eyes will show

Don’t touch her and make her scared

I suspect your way

Will poison her free spirit

and will rue the day

Oh no, those childish tears again

Running down MY face

Yet, I do not have the courage to

take her place

Suddenly, you let her go

At last, and so you should

“Fear not, my child,” says a gentle voice

“The innocent are covered with my blood.”
