Sex trafficking children is a world wide problem
Sound of Freedom
by T B Botts
I had planned on wrapping up my story about my last trip to Hoonah and all the issues surrounding the boat, but I got sidetracked today. I'm going to write about something that is of much greater importance and that impacts not only all of us, but societies around the world.
I just returned from the movie theatre. I haven't been to a movie for almost fifty years. The movie I saw today was based on a true story and has the ability to change lives, as opposed to watching something for the shear entertainment value it offers.
The movie I watched today is titled Sound of Freedom. It stars Jim Caviezel. If you ever watched Person of Interest on TV or saw the movie, The Count of Monte Cristo you might be familiar with him. He's a good actor, but as he mentions at the end of the show, this movie isn't about him, it's about the practice of sex trafficking children around the world and the children who have been impacted.
I know this is an unpleasant subject to read about, but I think it should make you uncomfortable. It shows you have a conscience. The movie documents true events that happened in Honduras and later in Columbia, but it's not limited to those areas. I read a book some years ago about some children who were kidnapped in India when their parents died after a tsunami wiped out their home. This kind of crime happens every day, all over the world.
While we can take sides and curse the leaders in an opposing political party, the crimes they may be committing, while serious, pale in comparison to the exploitation of children. Can you imagine, for one minute, that your little boy or girl was kidnapped and taken far away to be sold for the sexual pleasure of some pervert. What if it was one of our grandchildren? It's hard to fathom the anguish that we would feel, much less how those innocent children would feel. Not only have they been forcefully taken from their homes and all that they know, they are subjected to the most inhumane conditions, in some cases shoved in containers like cattle and then forced to endure the pain of sexual abuse by people who could care less about them. In many cases, they are videoed or photographed to be shared with other perverts, and even worse, when they no longer provide pleasure, they are sold to a new trafficker.
The movie mentioned that child sex trafficking is a multi-billion dollar business. Most of the demand for children for sex is right here in the United States. Is it any wonder that this country is taking a nose dive morally, financially, environmentally and every way that is the exact opposite of what our founding fathers envisioned?
At the end of the program, Jim Caviezel says-"God's children are not for sale." I hope and pray that we all will agree with that and will do what we can to put an end to this awful practice that is plaguing the world. We have the ability to speak out against the exploitation of children. All of us on this site are, after all, writers. We can influence what happens in our world. Let's write blog posts and letters to our leaders, letters to the editors of our newspapers, and speak up in our churches and social circles. Our children are counting on us to do the right thing.
The movie is produced by Angel studios. They have a web site that you can buy a ticket for someone who might want to see the movie but can't afford it. Each ticket is $15.00. I believe that you can also stream it free on your computer. If you haven't watched the movie yet, please do so. I would encourage everyone to take a stand. One day we'll be called to give an account of our lives. If we know to do good and don't do it, what does that say about us?

Jesus mentioned that anyone who would hurt a child, it would be better for them to have a stone put around their neck and be cast into the ocean.
