Saying Goodbye

by Diana Harris

I spoke with my sister today
For the first time in years.
As I sat by her casket
And my eyes filled with tears.

Old hurts and heartaches
Were hashed out and released.
Too bad it waited
Until you were deceased.

We took different paths
On our journeys through life
The paths didn't cross when
Filled with chaos and strife.

Not all understand why
I separated myself from you.
I forgave you your choices
I hope you forgive mine, too.

Goodbye to my sister,
We should have been friends
I pray you finally found
Your peace in the end.

My estranged sister passed away suddenly from a heart attack last week. It hit pretty hard that any possibility of reconciliation was abruptly gone.
