How Will You Know It's Jesus? Contest Entry

Now is the Time to Know Jesus

Jesus will only be known to those whom He chooses to make Himself known.  This is evident in Scripture.  Many times throughout His ministry, He entreats those healed or the demons that He is exorcising to keep His identity as the Son of God hidden.  Even those who knew Him did not recognize Him as they walked on the road to Emmaus until their eyes were opened.  Mary Magdalene mistook Him for the gardener after the resurrection until Jesus spoke her name.  By this, we see that the sheep will recognize their Shepherd's voice.  How do we know His voice?  By making ourselves familiar with His word, the Bible, and heeding the moving of the Holy Spirit within us.

Jesus said there would be rumors of His return but not to believe them for when He returns it will be as the lightning across the sky and He will be seen by everyone at once.  If we are looking for Him to return as a suffering servant or a simple man once again, we will be deceived.  If we say that Jesus must come performing signs and wonders or bringing world peace, we will be misled, for these are things the Antichrist will do before Jesus' return.

If we are waiting to know Jesus until His second coming, it will be too late.  When He returns, He will come in power: as Judge, King, and Conqueror.  He will return in the sky, from the right hand of God, where He ascended forty days after the resurrection.  Paul tells us that on that day the dead will rise and those who are living will meet Jesus in the air.  This means we should not seek Him physically in this world; when He returns, He will call us, and we will answer that call, even in death, even defying gravity.  It is only under these extraordinary circumstances that we will know that it is Jesus.  All of this happens in an instant, the twinkling of an eye; not enough time to accept Him if we have not done so already.

Jesus will come like a thief in the night; no one knows the date or time.  However, none of us are guaranteed tomorrow.  If we expect Jesus to return next week but we die tonight, we are lost.  Let us not be like the foolish virgins awaiting the bridegroom who did not prepare or have time to buy oil for their lamps.  The time to know Jesus is now; start a relationship with Him today and spend time with Him each day, in prayer and studying His word.  If we are prepared and watch vigilantly for His return, we cannot mistake Him.
