Newbie Flash Fiction Contest Winner
The African sun shone high overhead as Panya returned home, across the Savannah, after a successful morning. He had discovered a black rhinoceros and her nursing calf.
After harvesting her horns, he left the calf to Nature's cruel fate, to succumb to either starvation or predators.
The rangers began to pursue him; he fled for the trees, discarding his rifle and the rucksack containing the evidence of his poaching.
A flash of mottled fur, teeth, and claws; death from above.
The next day, the rangers retrieved Panya's remains from the crook in the tree where the leopard had deposited him.
