Betrayal

Floating in peaceful silence and warm liquid,
Enveloped in shades of reds and pinks.
Life is easy, simple, and good.
My every need is provided me within this room.
It is the only place I have ever known.
There is a door beneath me and I wonder what lies beyond it.
I will find out soon enough, for I must leave eventually;
The room is slowly shrinking, a bit cramped.
I will leave soon, but not yet; it is not yet time.
The door can only be opened from the outside.
There is a guard; I hear her voice.
When it is time, she will let me out.
I think she is here to protect me from something;
What that something is, I do not know.
I trust this disembodied voice without questioning why.
Suddenly, the door begins to open and white light pours in.
Two strange, shiny creatures have entered my chamber;
Curiosity consumes me; what is going on?
One creature moves quickly toward me,
Intense pain racks my body as my arm is torn away.
I scream out in anguish, inhaling my own blood.
The second creature has latched onto my head.
Outnumbered and overmatched, I am fighting a losing battle.
The two beasts are tearing me apart.
With my final, dying gasp, I question:
"Mother, why did you abort me?"
