A chapter in the book Children young and old

Joking with Me, Myself and I

by Debi Pick Marquette

(Me) I need to joke around, and I try to keep it light

(Myself) I'd like to have a say in this, to help us get it right

            (I)  am a silent partner; only here in case they fight

(Me)   She said to check her balance

so I pushed her as a prank

(Myself) You maybe shouldn't have done that

you were working in a bank

(Me) I fell down on my driveway

‘cause the gravel felt like salt

(Myself) If you can't walk more carefully

    it is your own asphalt

(Me)  For a living I crush cans all day

  with cans I'm always messing

(Myself)  We maybe should have quit our job

    it can be soda~pressing

(Me)  I think I know the alphabet

so I'll give it a try

(Myself)  Somehow you had one missing

and we just do not know Y

(Me)   This is my dear sister Sue, she

is not sweet or is she?

(Myself)  That doesn't make a lick of sense;

   It sounds a little fishy

 '

(Me)  I just found out I'm colorblind

I guess that means you too?

(Myself)  I never heard of that before

comes right out of the blue

(Me)  While I was dusting off my books

they fell; oh what a shame

(Myself)  You should have been more careful

you just have your shelf to blame

(Me)  You borrowed a few well-known jokes

 within your dialogue

Myself)  I'll put them back when I am done

my head's been in a fog

(Me)   Some are jokes I just made up

   I tried not to coerce

(Myself)   I guess they really weren't that bad

we could have done much worse

(Me) Besides they are in our own words

It shouldn't be a crime

(Myself)  And when it all is said and done

they all were done in rhyme
