The Road's Not Easy

by pookietoo

Yesterday ten young boys fell in a well.
When they would get out, only time would tell.
Twenty feet below, I heard each boy shout
"I am scared. Will you please get me out?"

One of these boys is mine. I shed some tears,
And I wanted to ease all his fears.
Not one, but two men heard each heartfelt plea.
With a long rope, they set each one free.

Each one was so glad to be out again.
When they fell, they suffered; felt lots of pain.
This is an incident they'll want to forget.
Talking about it will make them upset.

These men were these kids' heroes through and through.
I knew they had an important work to do.
In life these boys will understand what they can.
The road will not be easy as they follow God's plan.

I wondered to myself, "What path would they take?"
They will learn and grow with each choice they make.
Right then I felt peace come from above,
And I felt God's
overwhelming love.

I know their scars will take some time to heal.
I understand how each of them must feel.
In time each one will let go of their pain.
They will be happy children once again.

I heard Christ say to me,"I was once a child; mild and meek.
I would love to kiss each child's cheek.
Suffer each child to come to me.
I will bless them while they sit on my knee.

Teach your child to get on his knees and pray.
Welcome him back when he goes astray.
Always love your son, and hug him tight,
Help him choose wrong from right.

Teach your child to be patient and strong.
Forgive him when he does something wrong.
Know I am with him when the road seems rough.
My heart aches for him when he's had enough.

Your child's a precious gift from above.
He was given to you to love.
Listen to him when he needs to cry.
Help him get through every low and high.
