The elephant in the room

by Jesse James Doty

When I am an able-bodied man once again, I may choose to walk away from my current life while I still can.

While the choice is still mine to make, I may run away from civilization and go live in the woods.

That way, I will know the peace of mind and not feel the restlessness of the current population overtaken by artificial intelligence.

That is the elephant in the room.

People write and talk about everything else but what is called AI.

They make decisions over little or inconsequential things such as why the homeless choose to be that way.  While the choice is still theirs to make, I say they are protesting against AI and everything it represents in this world.

That is the elephant.  The choice to make decisions and live by the consequences of those decisions.

I hope to get out of here while I still can.  I will live by the skin of my teeth delivering wood to a fireplace, hunt for my food, and grow my vegetables in a garden that I tend with my bare hands.

If ever there were a time when discussions should be made, this is the time.

Let's get together right now.  Remember those old lyrics of yesteryear and break out some dignity and have conversations about the changes that will occur when, yes, it will be happening, artificial intelligence.

I am sure I have made you uncomfortable, but we need to talk and write about the elephant in the room.

We have created a monster, and it is us.
