A Gift for Mom

“Hey, David, you got any ideas what to give your mother for Mother’s Day? I don’t have a clue what to get mine.”

“Ever thought of asking her what she’d like?”

“Well, then, it wouldn’t be a surprise!”

“No, but you’d know something that would make her happy. Isn’t that the important thing?”

“Well, yeah, but, I want to surprise her.”

“Well, Ronald, old man, you asked; I answered.”

“No, you didn’t.”

“Did, too.”

“No. I asked you for an idea for something I could give her, and you said, …”

“I know what I said. I gave you a suggestion and you didn’t like it.”

“Okay. Forget it. I’ll ask her. See ya Monday.”

Hi, Ronald. So, how’d Mother’s Day go?”

“You don’t want to know.”

“Why? What happened? Your mom didn’t like what you gave her?”

“Not exactly.”

“Meaning?”

“Meaning I asked her what she wanted, like you said, and she ‘Surprise me.’ And I didn’t know what to get, so I …”

“So you what?”

“Didn’t.”

“You didn’t get your mom a Mother’s Day present? For Pete’s sake, Ronald, you could’ve at least gotten her a box of candy.”

“I did.”

‘Oh. Well, good. So, why didn’t you give it to her?”

“I ate it.”
