Written from a dream

A Dream

by Graham Byrne

            A DREAM

I dreamt I fell into a stream with many others too

All of us were struggling – ‘twas little we could do

And when I thought that all was lost and little hope remained

Some lovely words came to my mind and gave me hope again

“Love is the Spirit of Life flowing out to you

To keep you and sustain you your whole life through

You’ll open prison doors set the captives free

If you do just what I ask you and you follow Me”

And as I listened to these words I knew the Lord was there

I told him life just seemed too hard and I was in despair

He said to me, “my brother, don’t look at life this way

Just take My yoke upon you and wash your cares away

You’ll find My yoke is easy, and too, My burden light

Love and laughter will be yours - every day and night.

Cast all your cares upon Me, stay close to Me each day

You’ll understand and hear My voice along the narrow way

You then will give to others My gift I give to you

You need not look to any man to know just what to do

For if you seek to understand by trusting words of man

And do not seek to find your place in My created plan

Then you will never find the way to touch the one who’s near

And empty words of self you give won’t wash away man’s fear

But each and every one of you who struggle in this life

Need only reach out for My hand to overcome the strife.

And all of those who’re anxious and feel they’re drowning too

Can ask My Holy Spirit too just cleans their hearts anew

And anyone who calls on Me – says – “Jesus I love you”

Will understand deep down within a love that’s pure and true.

And as you share God’s gifts around your joy will be a flood

For God has conquered everything in shedding Jesu’s blood

Jesus paved the way to heaven – He’s waiting there for you

He’ll drown out all life’s sorrows life and love will be so true

Interestingly as I wrote the last line of the poem my wife came in to say that a friend had just been rushed to hospital and prayer was asked for. We prayed for him at that moment
