a narrative

Here We Go

Assuming the position, the fulfilling of the assignment began.
 
Here we go again. The two of us will attempt to record some thoughts about writing which can later be mercifully seen as a story, or accepted as an essay, with both definitions perceived through squinted eyes.
 
When I refer to "we", I am including the other voice, who needs to flip serious prose into whimsical prattle. That is not me. I am a serious writer.
 
I recall, as a youth, trying to finish writing assignments which required research and analysis. Although driven to discover and inform others, with the data I gathered and formed into cogent paragraphs, I was often overcome with the need to satirize the report. The confusion on the part of the readers often meant lowered evaluations or even the necessity to redo the assignment altogether.
 
Somehow, in the midst of transferring facts from research to a written report, someone thought that a metaphorical pie in the face would provide a sense of entertainment.
 
This propensity to "sabotage" clearly written and profoundly worded fiction or expository works, by seeking to fold in a cheap laugh, often to always resulted in a dismally failing final draft. 
 
I could pen poetry 
with both meter and rhyme;
or eschew and pursue
a haiku on slime.
 
I possess the finesse to address a congress of considerably qualified reviewers, apprehend their attention, and  then -- pretend I know more than I do.  Just as I suppress the aggressive incessant need to shock the jocks and Mister Spocks, who believe, naively, they are somehow better than me.
 
As an essay, this piece would be broken down to three sections; those are the introduction, body, and conclusion.
 
INTRODUCTION: This is where we would set up the expectations of the essay. In this case there may be three items explained. One might be how to react to the overwhelming acceptance of the essay by the readers. The second, the total rejection by the readers. Third might be the positive aspects of either type of feedback.
 
BODY: One paragraph, or group of like paragraphs, would address the positive input. A second group would cover the negative feedback. A third would find acceptance of both to be helpful. 
 
CONCLUSION: A summary of how positive and negative feedback is used would be addressed here.
 
Looking to turn this piece into a story, I would need to establish a plot line. A plot line includes the exposition, rising action, climax, falling action, and resolution. 
 
EXPOSITION: (He/she) sat at (his/her) (computer/Foreman Grill) typing (an essay/a story) about writing. It was a Saturday and the sun was slowly rising in the East, as expected.
 
RISING ACTION: While typing, the landline rang. Since it was six a.m. in the Midwest, it had to be either a telemarketer or the President of the United States. The ringing eventually stopped, followed by three consecutive peeps on the Amazon Alexa. The sound of the neighbor riding his unmuffled ATV around the outer perimeter of their thirty acre homestead rudely pierced the walls and created an idea for a story involving a pit and -- I've said too much.
 
CLIMAX:  The story/essay is completed.
 
FALLING ACTION: The draft is read through again; some changes to spelling, punctuation were accomplished; and second thoughts about posting the piece at all were worked out.
 
RESOLUTION: The correct buttons were pushed and the text sent.
 
 
With that completed, the challenge met, the correct buttons were pushed and the text sent.
 
As the Foreman Grill was placed back in the cabinet, the landline rang. It was the President.
