Yucky Greens

by Heather Knight

Mum's always telling everyone I'm a picky eater. I get told off whenever it's time to eat.

'But I don't like this, Mummy! Can't I eat something else?'

'Like what?'

'Strawberries. They're a lovely red colour. I don't want to eat green things, they look yucky.'

My mum sighs.

'It was so much easier when I breastfed you. Then you never complained.'

I look at the floor. Sad. It's not my fault that I'm the only koala who hates eucalyptus leaves.

Even though I speak about breastfeeding in the story, it's not accurate (but it sounds better): eucalyptus leaves are full of toxins dangerous to baby koalas. Mama koalas feed their babies microbe-rich poop instead to help them develop immunity.

I drew the picture myself using Procreate. I've recently discovered I enjoy drawing very much.

My daughter actually refused to eat green things when she was little.
