All The World Is A Stage

by Reese Turner

I am I, the salesman, skills extraordinaire!
I’ve traveled far and wide, around the world
For they who’ll signeth upon the line dottoth,
Based on my words and wisdom unfurled.

What did I study, oh, what was it there
In those training classes to make me
The purveyor of products, guru of glib,
Master of visions of all that could be?

Well, I was never a very good student.
To study deeply, just not my forte.
But, I discovered the power of questions:
More questions, soon buyers will sway.

To answer all questions with questions -
Keeps the ball in the buyer’s court
In time, most will tell what they really
Need and will pay.  Questions? Fine art!

To keep my management mollified,
To not be tasked with chores boring,
To take Fridays off for golf and beer:
Ask questions, sell more: that’s scoring.

Funny poem about your job writing prompt entry
Writing Prompt
Write a humorous poem about your job. It can be any job, but it has to rhyme.

Thanks for a prompt which let me talk about my "professional" life. I would come home so excited about some big sale I had made and my wife would turn, look at me sternly, raise one palm and ask, "what, exactly, does that mean for me? After tax!" My favorite Shakespeare play? Merchant of Venice, of course. My most unfavorite description of a salesperson? Death of a Salesman. That writer had no idea!
Pays one point and 2 member cents.
