When first we enter this wide world
There’s much we must discover.
There’s more to touch than feet and toes
We must go under cover.
We find there’s other beings here
Who act as if they own us,
And if we find, they’re glad we came,
It truly is a bonus.
All families are not the same;
their size and color vary.
From rich to poor or tall to short,
they range from glum to merry.
These little things don’t matter much,
until we get much older.
The things we need are food and love
and cuddling on one’s shoulder.
In time, we learn they’re family,
and perfect’s not an option.
Some days we’d like to run away
and dream about adoption.
But our DNA has bound us
to this particular clan.
It wasn’t like we had a choice;
it must have been God's plan.
We need to grasp good qualities
These people try to teach us,
avoiding flaws, we’re sure exist,
before they ever reach us.
Most people want to do their best,
and their bonds of love are strong.
Be careful not to place the blame
when the minor things go wrong.
Our family had a lot to do with the person we became,
so it falls upon our shoulders to bring honor to their name.
