The Forgetful Husband

by Verna Cole Mitchell

Hello, John here.

Hi, John. I hope the streets weren't too icy on your way to work.

Nah, they were okay. What do you need?

Can't I just call my husband without needing anything?

Yes, but do you?

Well, I would like you to pick up a few things at the store on your way home. Do you mind?

Course not. What do you need?

I need a couple of onions and a head of cabbage. Did you write that down?

Nah, I'll remember.

Okay. See you about 5:00. Don't forget the onions and cabbage. Love you.

Love you, too. Would I forget?

I'm glad you're home, Dear. It looks like we're going to have a huge snowfall.

It's good to be home. I'll just put this stuff I bought on the table. I hope I got what you want.

Wait a minute, John. This doesn't look like onions and a head of cabbage.

No, Honey, but who wants to be snowed in with onions and cabbage when ice cream and cake would taste so much better?

Oh, so you forgot again. I see you remembered your favorite kind of ice cream. It's a good thing you're so handsome.
