The death of her family on that fateful day of 9/11

Ever in Her Thoughts

It had been over a year since that fateful day of 9/11.  Her two children worked for their father in his law office on the ninety-sixth floor of the north tower.  All three were killed when the plane plowed into the building.  She was all alone now with her thoughts.  Friends had rallied at first but now were busy with their own lives.

Her memories of that day were lived over and over again in her mind. It became a breeding place for Satan’s imps to do their best work. Bitterness was dispatched to her broken heart and Unforgiveness to her mind. Her soul was troubled and would give her no rest. Sickness took over her body, causing her to feel lethargic and it became almost impossible to fight off the attacks of the evil forces. Life became a living nightmare.

Loneliness crept in along with Anger, Resentment, and a whole host of imps.  They roamed her soul relentlessly, giving her no peace.  Friends and family had become lax in praying for her, so the enemy had little opposition in this battle.

Suicide had been dispatched to her and lurked in the shadows waiting for Hopelessness and Despair to complete their work.  When the time was ripe, Suicide’s syrupy voice wooed her to the bridge.  Lies did a magnificent job disguised as Peace.  He had convinced her if she would jump, she would be with her family at last and find eternal peace.

Suicide, perched high above a girder, extended his hand to her.  As she reached to grab it, a sword flashed, blinding her, yet awakening her to reality.  It was the Sword of the Spirit, the Word of God.  She found herself quoting Scriptures.  “This battle is not yours but Mine, saith the Lord.”  “The Lord shall fight for me, and I shall hold my peace.”  “Greater is He that is in me than he that is in the world.”  On and on she went until she was filled with true Peace.  She reached into her purse for her cell phone and called a once-familiar number, “Pastor, could I stop by to talk?”  Hell had lost another victim.

Screams and screeching could be heard in the spirit realm as Suicide and all the other tormenting demons that had plagued her fled for the nether world.  When they arrived at their fiery abode, Failure was there to taunt them along with Defeat.  Fighting broke out among themselves with a vengeance, snarling and scratching, biting and cursing, then sulking until their leader appeared.  “Fools, you let yet another one get away.  You are useless to me.  Get out of my sight.  You have work to do, and don’t fail me the next time.
