Home Alone

House Poem Contest Winner
My home is where my comfort lies.
Don’t tell me I should go.
It’s true, to stay here isn’t wise;
I’m all alone you know.

This mountain with the trees around
is way too much for me.
Now weeds and underbrush abound,
and I’ve just let them be.

I have one car, but room for three
The bedrooms number four,
and yet there’s no one here but me
to clean my dusty floor.

Too many rooms remain unused.
It’s much too big to keep,
but buyer’s offers, I've refused.
They haunt me in my sleep.

My soulmate died five years ago
and left me on my own,
but still, I sense a faint echo
of him that hasn’t gone.
