Flowers always have been first in my heart
My Favourite Things
When I was a child I loved with a passion
Flowers our garden would bring into fashion
There was a trellis of roses fragrant and pink
And lovely, sweet violets grew near the sink.
The pansies that my mother grew
Were purple and gold and Ullswater blue
Behind them stocks where every bloom
Wafted intoxication of perfume .
Three decades on, my garden now
Is filled with perfume and yet somehow
That long ago garden I remember still
How I would stand and drink my fill.
I love flowers of every kind
There is a Peace not hard to find
When tending plant of bush or tree
It happens all quite naturally.
This gardener has a happy soul
My life seems complete and whole
Contentment like a sweet bell rings
For flowers are my favourite things.
