The Maple Tree

by AnnieDawn

My backyard had a maple tree
Planted years ago by me
It grew and branches spread with ease
As seasons passed I raked its' leaves

Those branches grew but harmed the roof
We cut it down I have the proof
I kept a chunk for memory
The stump stayed where it grew you see

It now holds seeds for squirrels, birds
And some might think it quite absurd
But stump lets kittens take a nap
In winter stump dons snowy cap

In the picture, the stump is actually about three feet from the edge of the house. I just didn't catch the house in the picture. I know the picture looks blurry but it was snowing like crazy when I took it.
