Collateral damage due to Coronaphobia
Vaccination War: No Winner
by Elizabeth Emerald
I had lunch with my friend Emily today. She was distraught at the loss of her mother, who has been battling ovarian cancer for the past four years.
Lest you cite me for a SPAG (at to "has" versus "had" above), I shall justify my usage. Emily's mother continues to battle her cancer; Emily has "lost" her mother in the sense that she will never again see her.
Emily's mother, though vaccinated, is nonetheless in fear of contracting Corona; her immune system is severely compromised by chemotherapy treatments.
Emily has chosen to not get vaccinated; she is in fear of unforeseen long-term side effects of the novel vaccine.
Though Emily has offered to remain masked and distanced during visits, her mother feels that such protective measures do not suffice.
Emily and her mother will continue to visit virtually, via Zoom. Small consolation that they need not be masked; they will be continue to be distanced.
