Jealousy Burns

by HarryT

Her choice between him or me
When she saw him, her look betrayed
I knew what had happened.
He took her hand, kissed her cheek
Her face flushed; her breath quickened
Her eyes sparked a gleam once meant for me

Doubts rumbled, growing to roaring thunder
Misgivings inundating my soul
Am I no longer smart enough?
Rich enough?
Tall enough?
My God! She’s chosen him.

In my heart, a Green-eyed monster raged
Blowing mistrustful, hurtful flames
Scorching, burning, churning a
Throbbing, smoldering hole in my soul

Earwigs keep crawling, feeding upon
jealousy he planted in my soul
