She came through the storm.
Rainstorm Remembered
I sat in my car wondering as
lightning scratched the sky,
thunder rolled down the street,
sheets of rain like a charging
army attacked my windshield.
I waited for the assault to retreat, but
waves of relentless raging rain
continued to roll against my car
No umbrella, no raincoat,
not even a thin windbreaker
I ponder resting my head on
the back of the seat, then
I see her standing on her
porch a black umbrella
blooming over her head.
She takes a barefoot step
a howling wind tries to
snatch her umbrella
she holds tight and
venture into the maelstrom
Lightning flashes
the western hawk rakes
her honey blonde hair,
but on she comes fighting
the stinging storm
I open the car door,
take her hand together
we splash laughing our
way back to her front porch
A memory page written
so many years ago.
