I Miss Your Face

by Jewell McChesney

You've become trapped in techno-grip
All knowledge at your fingertips

When life goes on outside your lines
As tunnel vision steals your time

Encyclopedias await
Upon your vintage wooden case
Attracting dust and yellowing
Forgotten stories echoing

A leather Bible never worn
The corners rest and never torn
No sentence needing underlines
while treasures now become confined

Fellowship is rarely sought
Friends are found and lies are bought
A social site replaces smiles
No needed hugs in this Lifestyle

Coffee clubs in virtual bliss
Where memes and pics now reminisce
Of simpler times and outside play
Imagining how Elvis swayed

Lucy triggered laughs and grins
But now it's the Kardashians
Who has the better Denim wear
for artificial derrieres?

Once upon a simpler time
We made a phone call with a dime
We searched a book for friends and keys
found them alphabetically

I long to have a hug from you
to sit and smell the coffee brew
Oh to feel a sweet embrace
and gaze upon your freckled face

Oh to be in your sweet presence
To have your body in attendance
Not through a cold lifeless device
Only to hold you will suffice

I fear the day that technology will surpass human interaction. The world will have a generation of idiots. -
