Riddle Me This

Poetry Contest
Create a Riddle of a common object or concept.
It can be done as a poem (like the examples--no restrictions on the type of poetry), prose, or incorporated into a short story.

Do not give away the answer in your title or picture.
Put the answer in the Author's Notes
Word Count: 1000 words max

Voters will be directed to vote for the most clever, well-hidden description that is accurate to the answer.

Examples:

from The Hobbit--

This thing all things devours;
Birds, beasts, trees, flowers;
Gnaws iron, bites steel;
Grinds hard stones to meal;
Slays king, ruins town,
And beats mountain down.

(Answer: time)

from Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire--

First think of the person who lives in disguise,
Who deals in secrets and tells naught but lies.
Next, tell me what's always the last thing to mend,
The middle of the middle and end of the end?
And finally, give me the sound often heard
During the search for a hard-to-find word.
Now string them together, and answer me this,
Which creature would you be unwilling to kiss?

(Answer: spider [spy-d-er])
