Alouette Poetry
Poetry Contest
The Alouette consists of two or more stanzas of 6 lines each, with the following set rules:
Syllable Count: 5, 5, 7, 5, 5, 7
Rhyme Scheme: a, a, b, c, c, b
Preference for the meter accent is on the third syllable of each line (please see example below).
Summer, are you near? (5 syllables, a rhyme)
Look and find me here (5, a)
waiting in my dreary room (7, b)
as the April rain (5, c)
pounds my window pane. (5, c)
Summer, come dispel my gloom. (7, b)
Summer, get here soon. (5, a)
I can't wait for June. (5, a)
Bring your stars and moon to me. (7, b)
Lengthen out your days (5, c)
touched by golden rays. (5, c)
Come and then. . . stay endlessly! (7, b)
