A husband asks why his wife left.22 total reviews

This is a sad story and yet it happens so much these days. A friend of my husband's came home on day to an emptied apartment. She had taken everything except for his clothes. He had no clue as to why she left. He finally remarried and found happiness. It took a long while though. The betrayed man here has even more to deal with as children are involved which compounds the loss. A sad story in your poem sir, but it looks like the contest winner to me.
Sending you my best today as always,
Sally Law :+)

Hi Sally. WHY? did not win, but I truly appreciate your endorsement and your anecdote. The poem is based on what happened to a close friend of mine many years ago. He, too, remarried and seems to gave found happiness. Rod

Aw, sorry you didn?t win. A great entry, Rod. I am pleased to hear about your friend. Sal :+)

Your sad verse is well matched by the wonderful artwork that you've posted here.
You've expressed 'Love's Betrayal' very well.
I hope this is not true.
Good luck with the contest.

Thank you for your kind praise of WHY? I ASK. Yes, the story is true, but it?s about a close friend whose wife left him abruptly. He suffered many years because he was estranged from his kids.

Very sad,but incredibly beautiful poetry. It is moving and the reader feels it. I am generally not a fan of sad endings, but nor am I in this case, but your words stir the soul and maybe you should send it to her, if it's a nonfiction poem and win her back. Bravo.

Thank you so much, Kathleen, for your kind response to WHY? I am especially pleased you were moved by Jer?s story (which is true about a friend, not me). I also appreciate the six bright stars. Rod

This I imagine would be quite shocking to come home and encounter a situation like this. Especially if you didn't anticipate it coming. I can understand it being difficult when the person that left was your everything. I like this and the feelings and emotions that you wrote this with. Thanks for sharing this well written work. Well done!

This story is true about a close friend, and indeed he was shocked to come home to find his family gone. He suffered many years because of this loss. Thank you for your sympathetic response. Rod

All these sad poems coming about because of this contest prompt. Frankly I'd like to see some of them come up with hope. With the thought that folks have worked things out.
Your poem is good for the contest.

I truly appreciate your comments, Gail. This story is TRUE, but it is about a close friend, not me. He and his wife never worked things out and she kept his kids from him for many years. Rod
Comment from Brett Matthew West
Sometimes in trying to provide for his family, a man, intentionally or not, places his career before them. As this well crafted poem indicates, this can make his wife feel the way expressed. Other factors against the odds of them making it were they married young and had children too soon. This could apply to so many people in today's world. Strong rhymes including "coat/note" and "sense/dense". Should make a good entry for this contest.

Thank you, Brett, for your kind praise of this poem. I tried to show how communication often breaks down in a marriage. It?s a true story about a close friend who suffered greatly because she took the kids away from him. Many fathers get shafted in divorce settlements. Rod
Comment from Iza Deleanu
Sometimes in life, people are putting the career first and leave their family behinds, for a future time that never comes. I guess betrayal is on the both side of the fence, one lossing patience of waiting, and the other been to blind to see it :"The papers came six months ago.
The grounds a term that makes no sense:
What's incompatibility?
What, Claire, went wrong? Am I that dense?" Good luck with the contest.

Thank you, Iza, for taking the time to read and comment upon my poem. This true story (about a friend, not me) does illustrate how both sides were at fault, though I blame her most because she stole the kids unjustifiably. Rod

A very well-written heartfelt poem about love that sometimes seem not to be growing and sometimes the partners are reaching for a complete different direction they go that they don't know what is important to our partner

Hello anon, this is very well written. An appealing poem and, if biographical, then I feel very sorry for you. Your final stanza suggests that you think the reasons listed may have caused the end of the marriage.
Well, putting career first is sometimes important when setting out in life. Many people marry young and have children early - I did. Very sad when it ends this way and one still feels much love for the other. Good Luck in the contest - regards Dorothy

Thank you very much, Dorothy, for sharing my poem and your kind praise. The story IS true, but it?s about a close friend. Both he and Claire should have communicated more fully, but I blame her most for stealing the kids. He hardly saw them for many years because he could not afford to travel that distance very often. Rod

Hi Rod, a sad but not unusual story. It seems to happen so often where one of the partners lose out. Dorothy

Awe! Such a sad one! How can someone leave and not explain why? It leaves such a gap in the healing process. At least if you know, you can move on with understanding. This is a touching offering for your contest. xoxo
