Ha. Yeah, right -- exactly HOW? I think there should be a new twist on an old cliche -- instead of, "If you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all..." it should be, "If you don't have anything intelligent to say, shut the hell up."
(Oops -- forgot -- good luck in the contest. :))

Oh dear. I hope there aren't any who give this one-liner as a tentative consoling message. Your poem is well illustrated. The poppy is a symbol of respect for those who have passed. Marilyn

I don't think anyone would mistake it for a consoling message, Marilyn. Thanks for reviewing, Craig.

A very well-written three-line poem about some people who have a heart of stone and seem to not let anyone come too close to see what is beneath the cold icy heart.

You chose a lovely picture to complement this short poem. I enjoyed reading it although I'm sure at the time of bereavement most mourners feel that it could not have been worse. Thanks for sharing.

This meets the contest requirements beautifully as you deliver a structurally sound 3 Line Poem. The content is moving as your word choices paint a vivid portrait of loss. Good luck in the judging and thank you very much for sharing it.

You're right that those words would not be any kind of "comfort" at all to people who have lost loved ones. Platitudes can come from a need to say something even though just silent grieving in sympathy would be better.

That would indeed be better, Helen. As would taking the tiniest action to ensure the same scenario isn't played out on a daily basis.

Oh, it can always be worse, Craig. At least they were shot by decent white folk with mental illnesses, instead of dirty terrorist Muslims. But hey, he's the leader of the Greatest Nation. He knows what's best, I'm sure.

Our words truly represent our hearts, a heart made of stone speaks hard words, words are the true index of our state of heart; well said, well done. Thanks for sharing; liked your excellent work; enjoyed the read.

Uh, Wow!! A heart of stone would be a nice moniker for someone who would have the lack of sense to say THAT... Holy Toledo!! A great offering, though, Craig, as it certainly showcases the sheer ignorance on the part of some.... ugh. :/ :/ :/ Best of luck in the contest! ;) Yvette
