I loved this poem. It was such a great description of a happy family. I don't think you were "different" though. I think you were three loved children with a mother and father who wanted you and gave you the home and security every child needs. You were blessed, and I'm quite sure, a blessing as well. This is a great entry in this contest. I hope it does well, as it should.

Ciao Mystery poet!
I gave you your 10th vote.
You looked a joyful bunch ...
Your adoptive parents must have been loving parents.
I was sad reading that both your brothers had passed away in your poem but when I read in your notes that Terry died so young I started crying.
Life can be so wicked and unfair ...as for your other brother ...I believe he was jealous of your special bond with Terry.
Children at times can say terrible things to each other.
Thank you for sharing part of your childhood with us.
Your poem is a testimony of the joy and love of that period....memories that have obviously remained vivid in your mind.
I hope you will cherish them still for many years to come .
A lovely read !

Thank you so much for your vote, the 6 rating and your enthusiasatic response. I agree now that my older brother was probably jealous, but he was also a mean-spirited person and cruel too. He injured a kitten when younger, then beat his wife when he married. He liked to create damage so I kept away from him. There's a lot more I could unload about but I've said too much already.

Sorry I had no right to try and excuse your brother 's behaviour ...you did well to keep your distance ..
I also can see why the loss of Terry must have been felt a thousand times more ..
Why evil hearted souls seemed to have more luck than those kind hearted ones is something I find hard to understand/ except.

It is indeed one of life's great quandaries. (I didn't think you were trying to excuse Jeff's behaviour, but writing the poem brought the pain afresh.)

A very wonderful set of beach memories for you to keep forever. I enjoyed reading the rhyming. The poem was clear and easy to read. The message was likewise clear. No edits or adjustments needed. Good luck in the contest.

I really got wrapped up into the story within your poem. Loved how you vividly expressed your memories of childhood and the deep love for your adopted family. Your author notes added deeper meaning. Your dad was quite the photographer ... I love that photo!
Best wishes in the contest :))

Thanks so much for this generous review, telling how you connected with the story. Dad was a good photographer. In this photo he got down low to be at our level, rather than looking down at us from his adult height. He thought about things like that, where other folks would have taken the snap quickly.

This is such an enjoyable poem and aren't you three lovely sturdy, healthy children? I've very sorry you lost your brother. I can't even imagine how hard that must have been.

Thanks for your warm and generous review. To make it worse, Terry's funeral was 2 days before Christmas, blighted ever since.

This poetic work is fabulous! The author took a photograph and brought the entire experience to the reader in a light, rhyming flow of poetry. Superb job!

A lovely poem that is a tribute to golden days of playing in the sun. I am so sorry about your brothers. Loss is very difficult when you lose someone you love at an early age. Hugs

Thank you for the empathy in your comments, and thanks for reviewing. That early loss and my other brother's response to my pain made a problem for me about forgiveness.

Memories, evidently it is clear from the photograph of the day at the beach, about all day fun and how you all brothers and sister played, are well said, well done. Thank you for sharing. Keep Writing Inspire Changing -- DR ALCREATOR

Such a beautiful photo and poignant memories! It sounds like your memories of both brothers are tragic, for very different reasons. I'm sorry for your losses but you've penned a lovely remembrance.
