This is a heartwarming story. Yes, it certainly is true that many abused children pass that behavior on through bullying of others, including their own children (if any) later. In this case, wise Mrs. Trumble enlightened Nathan about this reality, and he and his Uncle Stoopy did the rest. Kindness definitely is the best way to defuse a bully. This single event likely would change the life of John Charles forever for the better. The story may be fiction, but I know from personal experience in defusing an intermittent bully in fifth grade that spontaneous kindness does work. Superb.

LoannaLois, this is a beautiful story to share at Christmas time...or any time of year really. It is well written and has a message of love, sharing, forgiveness and understanding. I enjoyed it and had a teary eye and warm smile at the end of the read. Thank you. ~DD

An excellent tale, and one with a moral. Well written and enjoyable. I would now like to read some more of your work as I certainly enjoyed this. I wish you and yours a very Merry Christmas, and a Joyous and Happy New Year. God bless.

Wow, I really liked this story a lot. I have to be honest, and at first when I read about the kid being a bully, I was thinking "oh boy, this is going to be a sad one." But as I got into the 3rd and 4th paragraphs, I soon realized what a great Christmas story it is and it was a true pleasure to continue on reading. I have a 4 year old granddaughter and I tell my daughter (her Mother) to be sure to have her pick out a toy for the "Toys for Tots" Christmas fund drive they do every year as our young people need to learn and know the feeling and meaning of giving. Very nice story and well written.

What a lovely story Loanna. A perfect story gift to give children at Christmas, this is the wonderful example of two boys who would never have known the love of forgiveness and compassion as at this noteworthy time of the year, thank God for Christmas, "For God so loved the world that He gave His only begotten son, that whomsoever believes in Him, shall not perish bu have eternal life." John 3:16. Well done, inspired story. Blessings, Roy

What a really lovely story. I think most bullies are from unhappy homes. It's such a shame. This story is so nice and has a happy ending for both the bully and the bullied. Well done, I really enjoyed this happy little story. Good luck in the contest. :) Sandra xxx

I am crying as I write this after just having read your story. It is beautiful. I usually only review poems as I haven't got the concentration to wade through a whole story but this was an exception. I just loved it. Thanks and Best wishes. Jen.

-An excellent story, Loannalois.
-I appreciate your author note.
-You captured the true meaning
of Christmas, friendship, and
understanding in this story.
-Your characterization of the
two boys was excellent.
-I liked how Nathan responded
after the teacher talked to him.
-They solved the dilemma of gifts
because they had earned the money
to get them.
-I hope you do very well in the contest.

Ah yes the world is full of John Charles. They use any excuse, or no reason to be cruel and hurt smaller people. I lived the most god-awful life. My mother the town drunk and easy lay, was only part of it. Today I am a writer and if my stories lean towards talking cats and emotionally charged stories, I don't hurt anyone. Hurting someone deliberately is a terrible thing. Sincerely Mabaker

Wonderful story that keeps one reading until the end. The Christian moral is well indicated and the ending is great. Merry Christmas
