You have so vividly and casually introduced another country into the mind of a child with this poem - it 'speaks' in a universal language to charm and delight the reader. This is going to be an exceptional book IMHO.

Thank you so much for the encouraging sixth star. Just a couple more and I will be concentrating on the business end of these poems. I hope everyone feels the way you do about them. - Wendy

Oh Wendy, such a delight to read out loud to myself. I'm just THERE in the garden with Xai-He Xaing, you see I love gardening and used to DO it myself in the day. This brings back such memories I can't even tell you. It stirs my Spirit and wakes my Soul. The picture, I can't believe it - it looks almost like one that I would do if I could, it's from my mind too! Thank you dearest Poet, Anita

Why here you are again Anita. You certainly have made my morning - well that and I just saw that I won the cinquain contest - but that extra $100 is nothing next to your enthusiasm. Thank you for spending time with my kids. - Wendy

Boy oh boy, you did well with the X name. This is such a good addition to your book. What could try does Xai-He live in?
I'm assuming China because you mention huayuan is Chinese for garden. Get busy and get this published. It is a great teacher of the alphabet, about different countries and the children there and it is a great ambassidor for human goodness and tolerance of other cultures. Loved this whole book, and this poem in particular. The whole book is ready to go, hence the six.

Oops, forgot to put the China with the name. Thanks for pointing it out. Actually, once I decided on China, the x was an easy name. They have tons of boy and girl names that start with it. I am writing these as fast as I can. Thank you for the encouraging sixth. - Wendy

Thank you Jill for being a staunch supporter. Just two more to flesh out then I will be working on the publishing part (when the B & B slows down in the fall is more likely). - Wendy

A really lovely poem for children to enjoy as it rhymed well which children always like to hear. I also liked your choice of sketch.
Best of luck.

Thanks Maggie. I don't think it really matters about the pronunciation as long as the meter scans and you enjoyed it. Thanks for the R & R. - Wendy

Hi Wendy. This is a wonderful addition to your book. How do you know the proper way to pronounce those Chinese words? The illustration is great. You know that I always have to comment on the artwork.
These are my favorite lines in the poem, but enjoyed it all.
"She kneels down near the dark brown earth
where seeds she's sown will soon give birth
to herbs and spices for her food
and will not let the weeds intrude."

Hi Marilyn, For the pronounciation, I just type the word into google and an option to hear it in chinese pops up. I went through lots of kinds of trees and plants before I came up with the right sounds and cadence. As to my pronounciation guide, I just sound it out with words I use everyday instead of trying those cryptic little accents etc. that won't work in the FS editor. I am glad you asked. My turn. Did you try them first or look to the notes to see if I had offered help before you began? Thanks again for the encouraging reviews. - Wendy

Hi Wendy. I tried them first as to what I thought. My pronunciation for her name would be something like Zi Hee Zang. It was fun to see your note giving the pronunciation. Going on the internet for proper pronunciation is a good tool. Sometimes I do that for French.

Another great addition to your book, Wendy! What a great way to teach children about other areas of the world, its people and their customs. "and will not let the weeds intrude" ... a clever way of saying how hard working and diligent the people are in their quest to do things right. Luv it! ~ ~ Connie

Thanks Connie for the review and for pointing out that line. I was pretty proud of it and hoped it would be noticed. So far you and Marilyn (beaspeas) are the only two. - Wendy

Such a wonderful vision of spring and the harvest of summer that follows. Your work made me want to rush to the backyard and take pictures of all that is blooming from winter and springs plantings.
You created beautiful imagery with your work and it was a joy to read.
