Thanks for sharing another of your fine stories. So many of us look at everyday life thinking how difficult things are at times, but our lives seem easy when compared to so many others. Great job. :-)

Haiti has been trough so much. I can only imagine the suffering they endure, yet every time I see a documentary the people are smiling. Were do they get the courage?

Tom, your question is exactly the one that inspired this story. Thank you so much for sharing it. Rod

Seems the young nun has a rather clear perspective on most peoples reactions to life in general - they do not listen or want to hear.
The priest has his hands full in this situation.

Yes, both the nun and the priest will have their hands full in Haiti. Thank you for sharing my story. Rod

Good story, sadly based in reality as Haiti is once again hit with natural disaster. How do those people keep going? They are located in a dangerous place, but where else can they go? If we had a rational immigration policy, we'd bring a lot of them here. They can't just cheat and walk across the border, as others do. Why aren't we doing more to help the TRULY needy rather than the drug dealers who come from Mexico? If we truly want to be welcoming, we should look at who NEEDS us most.

It was great to read a story motivated by love. No one could blame her for wanting to flee, but the words and example of the priest ensured she remembered her calling. Great description and dialogue support a story well told and well worth the read. Congratulations on such a compassionate write.

Nicely written story with believable characters and dialogue. Good job of allowing Jeanna freedom to doubt her faith and her God by vocalizing it, but then coming back to Him.
Well done!

This is such a devasting thing to have to go through. Your writing does offer so much faith indeed and will power to move on. The ones that kept their families are so lucky. Great entry.

Magnificent writing.

I like the photo you selected, it is a good reminder of how good we have it here in North America even when things are going wrong. I know parts of North America have had to bear the brunt of natural disasters, New Orleans comes to mind immediately, earthquakes in California, the many forest fires, the not so natural disaster of 911, etc. However places like Haiti and other poor countries are taking a constant beating by storms and earthquakes, barely recovering and then get hit again. We need to remember how lucky we are and that they need our help. On a global scale, we are not nearly as charitable as we could be. There are a lot of generous people out there but globally, it could be much better because together we are stronger. You wrote a beautiful piece with a strong message that falls largely deaf ears. May your story open peoples' eyes and get them to listen.
Very well done.

Indeed we often ignore the plight of those living in the rest of the world. I truly appreciate your sharing my story and I share your hopes that others will get my message. Thank you! Rod

A very moving and heartbreaking story. You have a way of writing fiction that makes one believe that it's real. The photograph that you used complements your work.
