I think if we had to go back, and I personally would not want to go back, we would all change a lot of things especially knowing what we know now.

I think past experiences, both good and bad, make you the person you are today, both good and bad. Great review. Thank you. Gretchen

Wow! I can relate to your story as a mom of two girls who when through similar feelings when they were teens.
I can also relate as a girl (the only one) with five brothers. The teasing and taunts were never-ending. But one day it just didn't seem to matter. We (all six of us) are very close as are our families and supportive of each other.
Life has a beautiful way to help us outgrow things that are superficial.

This was so needed. I wish all girls would understand, but I believe that this is part of a flower maturing from it's seed, budding, blooming, and opening up so the world can see as you stated. ...this was so needed.

I tell both of my daughters that one day they are going to have a little bundle of beauty placed in their lives and they will wish the same for them. I remember focusing on every bad hair day, weight gain, you name it. As we get older we start to realize how much time we waste and how very little we have. Thank you very much for your understanding review. Gretchen

-Very well written and such wonderful thoughts for your daughter.
-You are right about teenage years being brutal--I don't know how many people want to go back to those years, maybe a handful!
-This is so heartfelt, and I am sure that one day, she will realize the things you are trying to show her.
-I think for many teens, it's all a question of when they are ready to accept themselves.

GWHARGIS,
"Attractiveness is subjective" and within. This is a very well written piece you
have written and never mind about teen agers...I still struggle with this issue.
No, not never mind...this is what every young person should read.
Dear Lord... harsh lights with magnified bathroom mirrors...Please...no!
I particularly liked the lines below:
"The world is waiting for you to shed the cloak of self doubt and stand proud.
But first, you have to open your eyes and see past what you think are flaws. See what I know is there. That is my wish for you."

"Daddy thinks she's purty but the ol' man's blind"...I wish young folks had
a way to see reality, which is always worse than we hope but better than
we fear, somewhere between doting parent and nasty stepsister...your post gives an excellent talk from one who cares...

Hello GWHARGIS,
Your middle daughter will be fine, because she has her mother's understanding and support.
I grew up in a home where that mother's love wasn't evident. Criticism was the norm. Even as a teen I knew beauty wasn't skin deep, but my mother did not know that.
So, we all struggle. We don't all snuggle. Your daughter's not alone, and that makes all the difference in the world.
She'll be fine.
You wrote this well. Kudos to you!
Best wishes,
Lana

This is a beautiful tribute to your daughter. Being the mother of two daughters and two sons, it is remarkable the social effect on beauty emphasis that is placed upon our daughter's through television and print ads, and the toll it takes on them. The boys are also affected by always looking for the "hot chicks" described by media, not by their own hearts. I don't know how to change that but in our own homes and discussions. Your daughter will one day read this and will know how valuable she is and how much she is loved by you.

We are all made in God's image, beloved and exactly as he wants us, it's a little hackneyed but beauty fades, but that which God intended remains forever. So you're right Gretchen, when young, I dated the most stunningly beautiful girl, but she was fickle and superficial, but I'm so glad God gave me the wife I have, in her my life is complete, with two stunningly beautiful daughters, whoo are, like their mum,, marvellous mothers and wives. That's what completes a woman, that beauty has no price! Well done, Gretchen show her the response to your post, silly girl, she's prized and loved. Well done, blessings, Roy

I keep telling her how God doesn't make mistakes. One day she'll understand. It took me a while, too. Thanks for your spot on review. Gretchen

Hi, Gretchen ...
= Nicely written, but a sad write.
= As a mom, I can certainly empathize with you, and your daughter.
= So hard to want to try and help, but can't. Been there with youngest son.
= I'm sure you'll get through to her. Patience is a pain, isn't it?
= Check at your end, because all of your paragraphs are not separated. They're all clumped up at my end.
<> Add hyphen: self-doubt
= cloak of self doubt and stand proud.
* A Smile Is A Frown Turned Upside Down! *
