Congratulations on a well deserved win. You're a great writer, and whoever it was that made you go back to writing did a great job. Love the humour in this and the complexity of human nature.
It was a difficult brief, and you answered it with a lot of insight.
Very well done. :)

Wow. That is so wonderful to hear. I'm happy to be writing again and I'll never give it up again ever. Yep, I thank her every day. Thanks so much. Big smile. mikey

This is insightful and honest, but creative at the same time. The writing itself is technically flawless, which I like. Interesting personal facts. I take it you work in the mental health field? That is not my field, but I seem to have an affinity for schizophrenics - and vice-versa, I think. They seem to flock to me. (My daughter sometimes refers to someone as "one of Mom's pet schizophrenics.") Good luck to you, Jeanie Mercer

Yes, I do work in that field. I think as artists there's an attraction to the interesting thought process of the schizophrenic mind. They're pretty quick thinkers and not boring to say the least. We aren't either for the most part, so they feel the same way about us. :)
I'm so pleased you enjoyed this. Thank you so much. mikey

About schizophrenics, I was beginning to worry that it takes one to know one! True, they are such quick thinkers they can really rattle the brain. But I usually seem to understand the weird connections they make.

You express your ideas in a clear but amusing manner. I enjoyed reading about your past and speculating on the questions you raised. I especially like the ending. Very few people really know what they are looking for in a mate.

I enjoyed reading this and found it a very sincere write. You certainly had many experiences and unusual ones at that. I am glad you are back with your wife. The other man's grass is always greener. I do wonder what is the ideal mate. Marriage is not easy it has to be worked on constantly. It is not for everybody.
Well written, good luck in the contest. Mary

What I take form this, M., is that you really aren't too fond of shopping lists and that such arbitrary decisions about qualities and matchups is doomed to failure. It feels like partnership is an organic thing based on attraction and what keeps the glue sticking. I enjoyed these travels through your romantic life and see that the mating game is as confusing as it ever was. Best of luck, mate.

You do bring ups some interesting situations and end with the dilemma that a good many of us face--what are we looking for? It seems you found several places to be needed, at home and at work.
Well done. Good luck in the contest.

Very good thoughts about just what we should look for in a mate. Yes I suppose that is not a cut and dried item. Different things with different people I'm sure. Good job at looking in depth at this question.

An intriguing entry into the mind of an intriguing man... (at least I think you are) ;)
I found this really interesting, and almost a plea to be heard, or challenged... or accepted... or... "challenge accepted" or something.
These parts, especially, interested me:
'I happened to meet something close to my ideal mate in high school although I didn't know it at the time. She had all of the requirements on my list plus one other one that should have been on there. She paid no attention to any of my personas. She recognized them as personas and passed them by. She introduced herself directly to my real terrified little self and adored me.'
(this made me smile... you don't really think that anyone believes an online persona do they? Which is really interesting, because we all have these people inside us, but if you're like me, they don't really come out like this IRL... well, not anymore. Mostly because we don't socialize. LOL not anymore... oh, true, I USED to be this and that... I used to rule the world.
hmmm... this gives me an idea of some things to write... I wonder....
at any rate... I'm tired, and it's close to the witching hour again, and here I am in bed, and reading your work... (what's up with that?)
Mommy, eh? lol *sigh* as long as you're not daddy, I"m ok with that. LOL
'That brings me to now. I'm back with my wife who solved the issue that separated us.'
(and just what was that?)
'I'm aware of and think about other options. My mind and heart are not beyond intrigue or interest.'
(well that's for sure)
' Is sense always a requirement? '
(sense in whom? you? or her? or in the moment? or what?)
'Should I not try selfish at some point?'
(we should all try not to be selfish... don't you think?)
I've gone through large moments in my life being selfish... I think i"m done with that for the most part. but who knows? sometimes you just meet someone that you just throw caution to the wind and say... fuck it... or me, or something...
LOL)
'Well, just thoughts. Thoughts are not unwelcome to me. Sometimes they are all that keep me warm.'
(that's for sure... I can relate to that... well, isn't that what keeps us writing? ) ;)
'Is this where I belong? It does seem to be the case. Is it the best thing for me? I don't know. What could I do about it if it wasn't?'
(and have you come up with any answers? Is this the reason for this contest?)
'What do I look for in a mate? You tell me, what should I look for?'
(have you gotten any answers? and who are you hoping will give you some?)
well written, and an interesting concept which leads back to where you started...
dazed and confused. ;)
and still just adorable as ever. LOL
now what? you still don't have the droids you were looking for. ;)

Ha! I'd have another post if I answered all these questions. :)
As far as selfish goes, I've NEVER been selfish, so I thought I might try it out once. No?
Some things are unspoken to protect the innocent and avoid prosecution for the guilty. HAHAHA!
My work puts you to sleep?? :)
Can't sleep? READ THIS! :)) LOLOL
Naw, it must be cause it makes ya feel warm and cuddly. Yeah, warm and cuddly, that's it.
I keep trying to give you reviewer nominations, but I already did. Well, I nominate you again. ANON A non what?
Comment from Curly Girly
You peeled back the skin, revealing the banana.
Observations:
*You loved your mother, who was nutty, but nice.
*You are attracted to lesbians.
*You hide behind various personas.
*You are confused and do not know what you should like.
*You are physically short, but get around. Makes me think of a fox terrier: rutting and travelling, often getting beaten up along the way, but ready to bounce back and travel some more ...
You posed questions to your readers:
What do I look for in a mate? You tell me, what should I look for?
*You're long in the tooth now, so I don't think you can change your natural preferences too easily. Some people just keep going for the wrong partners.
*Because you are small, you get attracted to big, strong, male-like women. Does lesbian sex turn you on? Or do you like the idea of trying to breed with them so that your sons become more male? Will those kids just end up confused?
*Find yourself and be yourself. Do you know who you are?
*Find a person you have common interests with, but will not compete against--you should unite as a team towards a common goal.
*Find a person you admire.
*If you find a person you have common interests with and you admire, and it's a ditto for her too: Go for it!
You can't beat solid commitment.
Cheers, Foxy!

This was one of the most entertaing reviews I've ever received. Breed with them to produce more male sons. HAHAHAHAHA!!!! That's toooooo funny. Coffee on my screen funny. Actually the lesbians were very pretty and feminine ... even more feminine than me! See, I can take it. :)) Well, I thought I was finding a mate with common interests ... lesbians. We both like girls!!! Cheers Back. Thank you kindly. :))
