That's about as insane a thing as I've ever seen. It reminds me in a crazy way of the movie Zoolander when the models are playing with gas nozzles squirting gas on each other and someone lights a cigarette. If you haven't seen the movie, that will make no sense. It's all so senseless. I don't know how one goes about imparting sense to people. Great concise piece. mikey

Thank you very much.

Well written commentary on a subject I find nauseating. This whole issue seems idiotic to me and almost surreal, like it shouldn't even exist. I Jud wonder what all of these people are really thinking or if they just need an excuse.
Thanks for posting and sharing your insight.

gun-wielding black man - add hyphen
good use of questions to engage the reader
This one I don't get at all - I understand the outrage at putting a choke hold on an unarmed man who is committing the tiniest of crimes possible, but protesting the shooting of a guy who had a gun aimed straight at the cop? What is the man supposed to do? Make himself a willing target?
weak-minded mob - add hyphen
Antonio Martin, were armed - add comma
long overdue, but it must - add comma
This has gotten so out of hand - not every single person shot by the police was an innocent victim. There is such a thing as a justified shooting. We need people willing to consider each event on a case by case basis to sort it all out, and in the meantime, nobody ought to be rioting and endangering the lives of many. It makes one weep. Brooke

In terms of presentation and statement of fact, well done. I had seen the films of what happened. Police get a bum rap in the media for their handling of this.
I live near Washington, DC....this morning paper filled with incidents...robbery, killing....shootings. Do not have an answer to all this, just questions.
We have a big problem in D.C.....no one has an answer. D.C. is a black city with black officers, mayor and council, yet, the shootings and killings continue.

I am heartened to read your piece because at last someone who knows the facts is stating it for all to see. I don't know how you can do this publicly and survive in the relevant areas because I guess you would need an army to protect you. It must be very frustrating, but this piece is very well written and easily understood. The facts are there and speak for themselves, Giddy

Excellent report and analysis. You are right in your opinions on this and the way the media has let PC nonsense make crime worse, putting more in danger. It's criminal if you ask me. The media and idiots like Al Sharpton and the AG are inciting these riots and not paying a penalty for doing so. Since you say this shooting was caught on video, then any mob action on the part of the blacks there is just plain STUPID. But who will tell them the truth? Will the media make it clear this time???
gun wielding black man >> gun-wielding black man
weak minded mob >> weak-minded mob
Here is the rule:
1. Hyphenate or multiple-word modifiers that come before the noun, and do not hyphenate them if they come after the noun.
Correct Examples
They have a six-year-old son.
Their son is six years old.
The well-endowed girl was popular.
The girl was well endowed.
Note: This is true for words that combine to work as one, not for "ly adverb"-adjective combinations, which do not require a hyphen. For example, no hyphen is needed to say, "The mostly technical article was hard to read."

Excellent, six-star work, Lancellot. I remember hearing the victim's mother saying after the shooting that the police were messing with her son. If he was breaking the law, they are definitely going to be messing with him. Maybe parents refuse to accept their own responsibility when their sons are shot at the hands of the police. Maybe they should have tried to set them straight when they get into trouble at school or with the police instead of blaming the school and the police. I don't expect to hear any helpful words from Eric Holder, but it would be great if he said what you wanted him to. I understand the police (probably under orders from de Blazio, aren't making any effort to stop protesters even if they are blocking traffic. Soon the police won't even try to do their job if they receive no support from Holder and company. Very well stated, and I hope you get a lot of reads with this one. judi

Greetings lancellot,
I couldn't agree with you more on this issue. Ignorant people protesting and looting to show their displeasure is criminal at best. Violence brings more violence and undermines good judgement. Now people are gunning down law enforcement officers? Who else is going to stand against crime, the protestors? Idiotic, hate motivated and disgusting use of a liberty we have taken for granted and these people mis-use.
It is madness and it needs to stop. Chrisfiore

Once again, you are the voice of reason...I saw this yesterday and already there was some black man at the podium speaking...he said, " a white policeman shot a young Blackman who was trying to surrender". Think how incendiary and full of half truths this statement is....when will this madness stop. You need to get your essays published and read among the minority community who are being duped and lied to....so very sad.

Yes, there is a little truth in what most everyone feels but life's decisions have to be made on an average of all the truths. You speak common sense and speak it well.
