"Kaleidoscope turns
color burst on western sky
brilliant reds and gold
sets the tops of autumn trees
divinely ablaze with fire"
this is a fine piece of poetic art! i love the imagery, it is quite breath-taking as a tanka should imagine! the poem flows effortlessly and true to form.
thank you for sharing!
good luck in the contest!

What an incredible picture that plays perfectly with your carefully chosen words. Your tanka tells a complete story in so few words. A lovely piece of work. rj

which is in good syllable count for the tanka
the third line functions effectively as a pivot line

I love kaleidoscopes. Have loved them from early childhood. I have a beautiful kaleidoscope made with stain.d glass and it is so lovely and relaxing to use. Sunsets and sunrises are kaleidoscopes. We need to enjoy them and relax in His beauty. Blessings, Pat

Hi Caroline
Sunset is always entrancing, so beautiful that involuntarily your mine begins to think of expressing itself. So i understand your keenness to set this on paper.. Well Done.
How are you and your family.? Hope you are doing fine.
I am back. I just posted a writing. Hope you like it. I have been very lazy those last few weeks. God bless.

Hi, Carolyn.
What a perfect poem capturing the brilliance of the setting sun. Your visuals really shine in this post, my favourite line, "sets the tops of autumn trees divinely ablaze with fire." Our leaves in Ontario are the most vivid colours right now, such a beautiful sight.
Bye
Rosalyne :)

So beautiful...reminds me of the other evening..I looked out my kitchen window, and the sugar maple down the road had been caught in the sunset, the top was blazing neon orange...I didn't know such beauty in a tree was possible...your poem describes it perfectly!

Well done. Your pivot line works fine for the start and the end of the poem. Too bad you didn't have a camera to catch the real thing. Was it as breathtaking as this photo?
