Ahh, the excitement you must have felt (in the first stanza) as you got ready for The Day, and the dress slid over your head. Congratulations!

I missed this one somehow. Congrats on the cocntest win and the other well-deserved accolades this brtilliant piece garnered. What a beautifully-told poignant memory. You paint that Christmas Eve picture so well, I can see it - how sweet. The last stanza is wonderful - love the idea of passing on, not just things, but experiences, stories, and memories to future generations as a way of keeping past generatons alive.
You're on a roll - keep 'em coming.

Totally absorbing these lines "There I stood in my Mother's wedding dress.
It was burgundy
with a lace collar
and crystal buttons." I can see it in my eyes. Lovely.

This is a lovely story told in free verse about your mothers wedding dress. I can see how it is your prized possession. It looks beautiful with the old lace adorning it. A very unusual color for a wedding dress.
Well written
good luck in the contest.

Memories such as these are once in a lifetime as many mother's have tossed theirs to the "Used/Sale" store or even to the Salvation Army. And then again, this new generation just can't be bothered with the old and want brand new gowns.

What a lovely memory of how a prized possession was handed down from generation to generation. My most valued possession is not material, it is passing down a life value to my daughters and them passing to their daughter, I hope the value will be passed next to my great grand daughter as she gets old enough to understand the meaning.
