Yes!! You are spot on. I love the author notes. It's how you ran the race! I need to remember that. Always trying to compete and be the brave soul when all along we are not in competition but doing our utmost best and competing against ourselves from day to day. Awesome Dean!

Great message here, Dean and delivered in your
usual well crafted poem.
if we strive through life to be the very best we can be
and treat others with kindness and compassion, we are
winners when we cross over that final finish line. Nancy

Just brilliant Dean. I love everything about
this race. Your authors notes carry the same
message more succinctly. Let me see if I can
find a sixer for this gem. A song, a verse
it matters not. A wonderful rendering. Eric

Extremely inspiring teachable words to live by.At an early age we are encouraged to live a life of abundance, but somewhere between 1st grade and senior year in high school it's rubbed out of us. We have to take it upon our self to run the best race for ourselves. We cannot stop reaching for that finish line.

"There is a path that's tried and true,
to walk or run, it's up to you." I believe we are all born with a six sense that tells us, "no, this is not for you, but this is." However, fear makes us fight that inner voice.

This is a wake up poem that reaches out and says just try, you might cross the line after all. Great poem. I will print this out.

It seems that we are urged to struggle and strive within ourselves and the world without. Why the separation? Why do we observe ourselves over a chasm. Are relationships only a fierce battle between us. The travail we suffer between past and future, binds us all. Even on the race track, why can't the effort be a form of meditation like climbing a mountain. Is there ever really a finish line? -Ekim777

Only if we care enough help each other out along the way, Ekim777. Otherwise, it's just a self-aggrandizing track meet with no purpose whatsoever.

A very uplifting poem that encourages us to live life engaged in fellowship and team work. Just like an athelete. I enjoyed piece with its mixed rhyme scheme. First, two stanzas of monorhyme. Then the rest aabb rhyme. You hold a very fine iambic tetrameter through out. The first two lines are feminine couplets. Very well done with a strong, upbeat theme.

I particularly liked the thought: "abstain from mediocrity." Indeed mediocrity goes hand in hand with apathy; which is anathema of your poem. Interestingly, the world in general are only interested in who wins a race. Trophies are rarely awarded to those who 'finish.'

A nice positive poem about running your own race through life. By passing mediocrity, embracing hope and love. Keep on keeping on. We all get to the finishing line, its a matter of when, and how. Nice read Dean.
