Yes, this is true, many of our veterans do not receive the kind of care and respect they so richly deserve. Oh, politicians and the elite will attend veteran's rallies, make TV appearances at Arlington cemetery, and spew elegant, meaningless speeches. Yet, those same people will often be the first to whisper, "Good God, man...get a job.", as they pass them on the streets of our cities and towns with an upturned nose and obvious antipathy.
Great free verse, Mikey. Very well said.

A widespread number of men gave their lives on account of our freedom and now sits destitute hoping that that someone cares enough for him.
A few areas of alliteration noted.

Lots of interesting words here. Some are unique. languish on land, I like. Muddied muck and gore. Like it. Jaundiced in jungles. I never heard that one, why I really like jaundiced. How did you come across that intriguing word? I like the loud brass sounds. I like that last line. That sums up matters. Good idea, the fireworks is a blast.

You are so right about the treatment of our veterans, it is shameful and the current VA scandal is just the latest in what seems to have always been the case. I love the raw emotion of your words about what our soldiers and POWs endure. Your final line sums it up perfectly.

It's amazing..I love this part
cool breeze on a July freedom
kind of evening
the sky explodes with victory's emblems
songs of valor fill the air
God bless!

This says it all, vietnam and all the wars America have ever fought and lost, but the shame of the way they treat their own Veterans rings so true throughout this whole work, the Government should indeed hang their heads in shame.

languish on land
crawling thru bloodied muddied muck and gore
for freedom's foundations
a very entry into the human suffering contest, I agree with the sentiments of the poem that they fight is horrendous situations, risking their lives and the are treated badly when they return injured
good luck in the contest Mary

This is a powerful piece. You certainly capture the sacrifice of our fighting men and women in beautiful and poignant images. Then you slay this country with one killer line showing the horror of its shame. Bravo! The winner in my book. NG

Your poem highlights two different kinds of suffering - the Hell of war in different types of combat and then suggests what is even worse, the treatment received by some veterans after they return home.
Best of luck in the contest with this striking poem.
