WOW! If I had a six star... This is very profound. I couldn't help but seeing G.W. Bush as I read this. I suppose we, as a people, forget how to choose those who control our destiny. Vietnam was the first war of my life. My brother was 56th on the list to go just as the draft was lifted. We lost many friends there, and my heart still breaks not just for those who died there but for those that came home and now live destitute. (no one mentioned PTSD then or any war before.

Knowing for certain
That you have no Idea
What you are saying
When accuse the President
of not caring,
I'll say this,
although he has done
much to make people
upset,
To be fair,
He didn't lie
To get us into
Iraq,
He wasn't the man
Who condoned torture,
As a way to find the truth
He didn't cheat an honorable man
To become my Commander in Chief
So before you judge what he has not done,
Why don't you examine
The Congress that
Will not let him do?"
I am not a Democrat
You see,
But it would be
to my shame
If I were
Republican
It's not easy being
President,
so please don't
lose any sleep.

Thanks for your time and kind review. Blessings and take care, Ine. It is inspired by an old protest song.
-
You're welcome, and now that you have explained, I remember the song. And Thank you for appreciating what I said.

Expressive words; this was so sad and deep.
I liked your poem very much... this poem gives me the interest to get into the minds of Mr. President. I do believe our current President wants peace and not war. Great format and repetition of Mr. President sleep well works really well. this is very nice free verse. Thanks for sharing it.

I find this poem to be quite insulting to the President.. You take a lot for granted, and say much...from your first verse throughout, I think you may be giving your own thoughts, and if so you have every right to do that...
I know many will agree, and so be it, to me this is an insult to the President of these United States, you take too much for granted...If you find my comments, not to your liking, you can always report me to the administration.
I have to give you 5 stars for the writing, as I saw no spag....certainly not for the contents..

Thanks for your kind and thoughtful review. Love and hugs, Ine. It is a satirical song, meant as a protest against war. As far as I am concerned all leaders and queens and kings can go- that is thought provoking.
-
Usually when one writes a poem that is satire, a note is added to make that know, I saw not note...You are quite welcome for the review,

Sleep well..I wouldn't be president no matter how much was paid me...you're damned if you do and you're damned if you don't..I sure wouldn't want to stand before God if I'd fought a war for greed..God bless.

ideas of peace that never shall be achieved by blood - that is a statement so very many of us can say Amen to, Ine.
good image and alliteration in bayonets with bloody handles
and in don't dream too much about all those dead
a most provocative poem of social and political commentary, my friend :-) Brooke

There will be many readers, nodding along in total agreement with your every word, as I am doing. Australia has enough of our own troops "helping" our ally, America and we have lost 32 of our young men and for a country with a total population of 22.7 million, that is way too many as our troops are relatively small relatively speaking. I suppose the President can't afford to dream about the carnage his decision has caused. Very well written Ine. xx Pix
