A very cute whimsical piece you have penned here. This was a fun adventure that lets the mind play games and imagines creatures big and small. This was a pleasure to read and review...dark lord

I can see why this won the contest. It is so original and creative. I like to write for children, but I mostly write prose, not poems. Congrats on the win.

Thank you! A couple of reviewers found it a bit too scary, but I believe kids love that spooky touch...

I can see why this poem won the contest. Your poem is beautifully written and rich in imagery. Your rhyme is great. You make effective use of the poetic devices alliteration and metaphor in your writing. I enjoyed the lines: "In the bathroom, on the stair, Inside that cupboard over there. Though you may think it can't be true, You're living in a Critter Zoo." Keep on writing excellent poetry. Congratulations on the win.
Melissa.

Thanks, Melissa - it was a bit of fun that took on a life of its own. The competition was togh too. Closet's vegetable poem was superb so I'm grateful to have scored a win.

This is the first time Sendak has been mentioned, though I've had a few comparisons to Dr Seuss - in any case my head is as big as a balloon...

Well, you certainly don't need my approval rating, but I'll add my two-cents worth - which I'm sure has all been said before!
Delightful. A child's poem indeed - deliciously creepy-crawly funny-scary. Some will not want to get in bed after reading that; parents will HATE you.
You and Moyramouse will have to publish your Child's Book of Verse together. It will be a smash-hit!
Well done!
