This is such a nice tribute poem/song for your dad. I'm sure he was thrilled with it. I am so sorry to hear about his struggle with cancer - It is such a devastating disease. One can really hear to the love pouring out in this poem. Rose.

In recognition of your Father and his adventurous ways and thrill of life you wrote a really neat song!
The rhyme and flow of the lyrics and meter has a good tune to pick up on and the chorus is catching.
Strength to you and your Dad.

My view of dad changed - Dad, since it is used as his name in this context
he loved God, corp - corps
I like the repetition of Semper Fi Marine
Your chorus is most effective
The flow of your poem/lyrics is steady and the rhyming is strong in this poignant tribute to your dad :-) Good luck in the contest :-) Brooke

Brooke, thank you. I will make those changes right away. We think my dad has about 24 hours left. I will then sing this at his memorial service. I appreciate your review very much. Blessings, Katie

Good one. Before I read your notes, I was thinking it would make good song lyrics, with the repeating lines. I remember the months of my father's illness as some of the saddest days in my life. It's a hard idea to accept, the fact that life can go one without Dad. I wish you courage, katie. Time does dull the pain and leads to acceptance. But it's a hard period of growth.
Good luck in the Poem of the Month contest. Congratulations for having your poem chosen for the contest. That's a great honour in itself.
Good job!

Thank you so much. We think he only has 24 hours left so this nomination is amazing. My mom has a nomination too for, "Welcome home". Her poem was for my father too. We are amazed that we were both nominated. Thank you for the review. Blessings, Katie

Very touching... very sad... very uplifting! It's all of those things!
So soar on wings like eagles to
God's arms they're open wide
It's a good day for jumping
C'mon let's take a ride
Brings a lump to my throat... love and warm wishes, Jack xxxxxxxxxx

Thank you so much. I read this to my dad before I sang it to him and cried my way through. Lol. I appreciate your kind review. My dad told me the other day that he may died that day and was looking at me to see if it was ok. I just responded with, so its a good day for jumping huh? He just smiled getting the message. Blessings friend, Katie

Really enjoyed this and what a wonderful
tribute to your Dad, the Semper Fi Marine.
Surely it's a powerful force in ones life.
I enlisted at 17. Recently one of my sons
turned and , "Thanks for serving Marine."
Gret, great, poem and God be with your dad
and whole family. I'm in treatment myself
but Jesus holds my hand. Semper Fi forever.

Radio, my prayers are with you. Thank you for your service! My dad found out too late for treatment, but I am so blessed that he also know Christ. I am not ready to lose him, but God is taking care of the details. I'm glad I was able to write and sing this for him. It's a country piece and his toe was tapping :) Thank you so much for your words and understanding review. Blessings, Katie

This is a beautiful poem/song. It tells a great story of a wonderful time in the life of a young girl and her father. Knowing the story makes it all the more impressive. Your author's notes are a good accompaniment to the poem. I particularly like the final stanza. Well done.

Thanks mom, this was hard to post. I didn't want someone to rip it to shreds since it is so personal.
